Ingolstadt vs Hannover Predictions
FC Ingolstadt only need a draw to reach the 40-point “safe” threshold, which should be sufficient for last season’s second league champions to guarantee themselves another year of top flight status. Ingolstadt lost 2-0 away to SV Darmstadt last Saturday, an opportunity they would have liked to have capitalised on given Darmstadt’s poor record at home. Ingolstadt’s have a strong recent home form however and they will be looking to take revenge on the reverse fixture, where Ingolstadt suffered their worst ever top-flight defeat losing 4-0 in Hannover.
For Hannover 96, their 2-0 win at home last Friday against Borussia M’gladbach kept their theoretical chance of relegation survival alive, but anything other than a win this Saturday against FC Ingolstadt would all but end Hannover’s 14-year stay in the Bundesliga. Newly appointed coach Daniel Stendel has taken four points from a possible six since taking over from predecessor Thomas Schaaf, more points in a week than Schaaf did in three months at the club.
Ingolstadt and Hannover bring together the two weakest attacks in the Bundesliga with this meeting. Hannover have scored 26 goals and stand bottom of the league with 21 points and yet, unbelievably, Ingolstadt have scored just one more goal and stand in 9th place with 39 points. Both teams are clearly struggling with low conversion rates, but FC Ingolstadt have been far more solid defensively and efficient in their goal-scoring all through the season. However, since the appointment of former U21 coach Daniel Stendel for Hannover 96, the “experimentation” with some younger players and different formations has resulted in two very impressive performances (one win and one draw) against sides in the top six. Despite Ingolstadt’s solid recent home form, the statistics show they have drawn or lost in 54% of their matches which favours the “in-form” guests.
Combining the analysis above with the statistic below, expect Hannover 96 to continue their fighting form and string together a performance they won’t be ashamed of, even if one point isn’t enough to keep them in the top flight – a result of a 1-1 draw at 6/1 also seems decent value for this match.
