FC Volendam vs FC Utrecht Reserves Predictions

Volendam had to settle for a point after taking the lead at Cambuur on match day 14, but the 1-1 draw extended their unbeaten streak to eight under boss Hans De Koning. Palingboeren should keep that run going this Friday when they entertain 18th placed Jong Utrecht at Kras Stadion, but the visitors will be feeling good after beating Jong Ajax in a 4-3 thriller on Tuesday evening.

A Kevin van Kippersluis penalty cancelled out Nick Doodeman’s fourth goal of the campaign in Leeuwarden last Saturday, but Volendam will still be in high spirits as they remain unbeaten since Hans De Koning took over at the club in early October.

Palingboeren have worked their way up to 13th in the Eerste Divisie standings following four wins and four draws from their last eight matches, and seven points from their last three fixtures means they’re in the hunt for Play-off qualification via the Period 2 table where they currently sit just a couple of points behind Den Bosch and Oss.

With matches against NEC, Roda JC and Twente to come over the next few weeks, Volendam will do well to avoid defeat in the lead up to Christmas, but they should at least extend their unbeaten sequence to nine this Friday when they host Jong Utrecht.

The visitors have picked up just one point from their seven away games this term and have failed to win any of their last ten on the road in a run stretching back to the 2017/18 campaign when they finished bottom of Eerste Divisie.

Robin Pronk’s side have made slight progress this season overall though and they doubled their win tally on Tuesday with a 4-3 victory against Jong Ajax at Sportpark De Westmaat. Top scorer Nick Venema bagged a fabulous hat trick to secure Jong an important three points, which lifted them up to 18th in the table.

It’s asking a lot of Jong to follow up here though and their odds of around 12/1 to land the points at Kras Stadion are a fair reflection of their chances, despite Tuesday’s win and a brave showing when last on the road against Sparta Rotterdam (4-2) a fortnight ago.

We do fancy Jong to get on the score-sheet though so our recommended bet in this one is Volendam to win and both teams to score.

Jong have scored in their last five away matches and in 10 of their 14 games overall this term, whilst Volendam have kept just two clean sheets in 14 outings this season. The aforementioned Venema has racked up 11 this campaign for the visitors and is an obvious threat, so this wager has a great chance of landing and is far more appealing than simply backing a home win at around 2/9.

This could be a really high scoring affair with six of Jong’s 14 league matches producing over 4.5 goals, so we’re also going for a 4-2 success Volendam success in the correct score market.
