Finland vs Republic Of Ireland Predictions

  • Ireland have failed to score in seven of their last ten matches
  • Finland have won the last two meetings 1-0
  • One team has failed to score in each of the last four meetings

Finland to edge a cagey contest

Finland and Ireland have both lost their opening two Nations League matches without scoring and a cagey contest looks likely in Helsinki on Thursday.

This fixture rarely sets the pulse racing and four of the seven meetings between these nations have featured two goals or fewer.

Finland have won the previous two meetings 1-0 and that looks a strong correct score prediction with the best bet being a home win in a match featuring no more than two goals.

Ireland are in miserable shape and goals have been particularly hard to come by, with the Boys in Green firing blanks in seven of their last ten outings.

New boss has his work cut out

Former Iceland boss Heimer Hallgrimsson has been tasked with improving Ireland’s fortunes but his two matches so far have yielded a pair of 2-0 home losses against England and Greece in the Nations League.

Finland also lost 2-0 to the Three Lions but a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Greece makes it hard to be too bullish about the Finns chances this week, either.

However, on home soil they are fancied to have the edge and we predict a low-scoring Finland win looks the most likely outcome, as has been the case in the last two meetings.
