France can avoid tense finish

France head to Finland for their final group game on Tuesday, but they can take any tension out of that one with a victory over Kazakhstan this week. A routine win for the heavy favourites would book their spot at the World Cup with a game to spare.

France are huge favourites to see off a Kazakhstan side who have lost to nil in four of their last seven qualifiers. The hosts are winless so far in this group, scoring just five times in seven matches. On the bright side, they have only conceded 12 times along the way.

France is obviously the biggest test the group’s weakest side will face, but the hosts haven’t exactly been free-scoring so far. They’ve dropped points due to a lack of cutting edge, not something you’d expect of this talented French side. However, they’ve scored only eight times in six games and just one of those has seen over 2.5 goals scored.

The visitors have lost 2-0 on three occasions in this group and we see another low-scoring loss for them. France to win and under 2.5 goals looks like great value considering 21 goals have been scored across their last 10 qualifiers. Given that average of 2.1 goals per game, a 2-0 victory for France is my correct score prediction.
