Over 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Over 2.5 goals landed in all 10 of Brugge’s Champions League matches last season, while they scored at least three goals in four of their five home matches. Villa have yet to score in the league this season, but they generated 1.93 xG in Saturday’s draw with Hull.

Club Brugge 2-1

Reason for tip

Only Arsenal beat Brugge at home in the Champions League last season, and Villa look vulnerable after claiming only one point in the league so far. Both teams scored in six of Brugge’s European games last term, so back them to win and concede.

Club Brugge vs Aston Villa Predictions

  • All 10 of Brugge’s Champions League games last season featured three or more goals
  • The hosts scored 3+ goals in home meetings with Barcelona and Atletico Madrid
  • Villa beat Brugge 6-1 on aggregate in the Champions League in 2025

Can Emery’s men get off the mark?

Just as they did last season, Aston Villa have started the campaign without scoring across their first three Premier League fixtures. Squad churn has massively impacted Unai Emery’s preparations for the new campaign, but his side at least offered an improved performance in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Hull.

Now the Europa League winners make their Champions League return, and they take on familiar opposition. Villa meet Club Brugge three times across the 2024/25 campaign, beating them 6-1 on aggregate after losing in Belgium in the League Phase.

The new Champions League format has helped Brugge establish themselves in the competition. They’ve made the knockout stages in back-to-back years, and they put out Atalanta in the first knockout round in 2025.

The Belgian outfit met Atletico Madrid in the knockouts last season, losing 7-4 on aggregate. Those ties continued Brugge’s high-scoring European form, with all 10 of their Champions League matches last season featuring at least three goals.

Brugge scored three goals in home meetings with Monaco, Barcelona, Marseille and Atletico last term. While Villa have struggled to get off the mark this term, Tuesday’s clash should be a more open contest.
