France -1

Reason for tip

France have won five of their last seven home friendlies, four by two goals or more. They look set to freshen up after beating the Dutch last time out and could breeze past a Scotland side that were ultimately beaten by Spain in a game when they worked very hard off the ball. Steve Clarke’s side have now lost their last two games and are without key defenders Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney.

France 2-0

Reason for tip

France have won five of their seven post-World Cup matches to nil and averaged exactly two goals per game in that span. They have won five of their last seven matches against the Scots too.

Scots could be sunk by freshened-up France

Scotland interrupt their successful Euro 2024 qualifying programme for a friendly against World Cup finalists France. Steve Clarke’s side will be in buoyant mood after reaching the finals courtesy of Spain’s win over Norway on Sunday evening.
And while many will suspect that factor could play into how they approach this game in Lille, the Scots will be looking to avoid losing a third game in a row when they take on Les Blues.
After last month’s Hampden Park defeat to England in the 150th anniversary game, Scotland lost 2-0 to Spain in Seville on Friday. Meanwhile, France had Kylian Mbappe to thank for securing their place at the finals with a 2-1 win over the Netherlands.

Hosts look backable on the handicap

The Paris Saint-Germain ace skipped training on Sunday and may miss the match also, but Didier Deschamps’ side have a solid record in home friendlies and should win anyway. Scotland will be without Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney and one or two others are likely to be given the night off.

They could face trouble from a group of players looking to push into Deschamps’ plans and well capable of scoring a few goals. The depth of talent available to the France coach should ensure the quality does not drop by much if several changes are made.

Therefore, backing the hosts to cover a -1 handicap appeals in this spot, given it would have yielded returns in four of France’s last seven home friendlies.
