Fulham to Win

Reason for tip

Middlesbrough lost four of their six trips to the top six last season, scoring only twice and we’re backing them to come up short against a Fulham side who have arguably the strongest squad in the second tier.

Fulham 2-0

Reason for tip

Middlesbrough’s goal-shy record at the top teams last season points to a win to nil for Fulham. The Cottagers have opened the scoring three of their last four league clashes with Boro and they’ve won seven of their last nine home Championship games.

Aleksandar Mitrovic To Score Anytime

Reason for tip

Mitrovic has scored 38 goals in his last 57 Championship appearances and we’re backing the Serbian to make a fantastic start in his return to the second tier.

Fulham vs Middlesbrough Predictions

  • Mitrovic has scored 38 goals in his last 57 Championship appearances

Early test for Fulham

Fulham have spent the last four seasons bobbing between the Championship and the Premier League and they’re aiming for a third promotion in five seasons this term. Marco Silva is the man entrusted with their push for the big time, but he doesn’t have an easy start.

Silva’s men meet a Middlesbrough side who are expected to challenge for a playoff spot this term. Neil Warnock dragged them up the table last term only to see his side fade due to injuries. This time around they’ll be hoping the (slightly) eased fixture list will see them find consistency.

How far can Boro go?

With a promotion specialist on board in Warnock Middlesbrough should be confident about the upcoming season. Boro have brought in the likes of Sammy Ameobi, Matt Crooks and Uche Ikpeazu so they have proven Championship talent on board. However, they still don’t have the resources to trouble the relegated sides.

Fulham have focused on quality over quantity this summer, adding Paulo Gazzaniga and Harry Wilson so a squad which has plenty of promotion experience. The Cottagers have seen players depart thanks to loans ending, but they retain a core which has been through the Championship before.

Among those is Aleksandar Mitrovic, who was top scorer during his last Championship season, hitting 26 goals. He was relentless in the second tier before and he now has a point to prove under a new boss after a tough 2020/21 campaign. We expect Mitrovic to hit the ground running and he’s our anytime goalscorer prediction here.

Fulham to make quick start

Marco Silva has made impressive starts at most of his clubs in England, rallying Hull to fight for safety and getting Watford into the European mix. He’s likely to hit the ground running as he looks to prove himself, especially with a squad as talented as this one.

Fulham are the side I’ve backed for the title and we’re backing them to claim a victory. They face a Boro side who won none of their six trips to the top six last term (D2 L4) and they scored only twice in those trips. Given that, we’re backing Fulham to take the points alongside a 2-0 correct score prediction.

  • Fulham have won seven of their last nine Championship home games
  • Fulham have scored the opening goal in three of their last four Championship meetings with these opponents
