Galatasaray vs Manchester United Predictions
- United have conceded 11 goals across their four group games
- Galatasaray have plenty of in-form attackers, with Wilfried Zaha scoring four in five meetings with United
- The hosts have scored seven times across their matches in this group
Defensive concerns remain for United
This has been a tough campaign in Europe for Manchester United, who have lost three of their first four group games to sit bottom of the table. They’ve got just two matches left as they scramble for a top two finish, with a visit to Galatasaray followed by a home clash against Bayern Munich.
United have looked far too open in their games in this group, even conceding too many chances in their 1-0 home win over Copenhagen. The Red Devils have lost 4-3 in their two away games so far, while they were beaten 3-2 at home to Galatasaray back in October. Defensively they haven’t been good enough, which is concern ahead of this difficult test.
Galatasaray flying forward
Galatasaray made plenty of moves to freshen up their forward line in the summer and they’ve put together a potent mix up top. Mauro Icardi continues to be a threat, which has seen him linked with a January move. Adding Wilfried Zaha on a free transfer also boosted their options and the ex-Crystal Palace winger is in form ahead of the visit of his former side.
Zaha has scored four times across his last four games, providing an assist along the way. The winger has also netted four goals in his last five games against United, including a strike at Old Trafford in Galatasaray’s recent win. With United’s defensive concerns considered, he should be able to trouble them yet again.
With Hakim Ziyech adding some quality in the final third, back this Galatasaray attack to trouble a United side who have shipped 11 goals across their first four group games.
Another thriller for United
While Galatasaray should cause problems going forward, there’s a case to be made for United scoring a couple here too. The hosts have conceded twice in each of their group games so far, while the Red Devils have scored at least twice in three of their four matches.
Galatasaray last pulled off home and away wins over an opponent in this competition back in the 1969/70 campaign when they saw off Irish side Waterford United. That wait is likely to continue, although the hosts have just only two of their last seven home meetings with English sides in this competition. Given that, back a 2-2 draw in this clash with another thriller on the cards for United.
