Sassuolo have the potential to be one of the surprise packages in the Europa League this season. They have been upsetting the big boys in Italy for a while now and put in a highly impressive display to see off Athletic Bilbao 3-0 in their opening Europa League group game, having made it through the qualifying rounds with minimal trouble. They’ve made a pretty good start in Serie A too with 4 wins from 6 games so far, although one of those victories was chalked off and awarded as a 3-0 win to Pescara, so they find themselves in mid-table. They’ve been quite strong on the road since the start of last season so will have plenty of reason to travel here with confidence.

They will take encouragement from Genk’s showings both at home and in Europe so far this term. They’ve lost 4 of their last 5 games in all competitions and are down in 10th place in the Belgian top flight. They made very hard work of what should have been a relatively smooth progression into the Europa League group phase.
