Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Fewer than three goals have been scored in three of Genoa’s four Serie A games and in three of Lazio’s four league games. Also, no more than two goals have been scored in four of the last five head-to-head meetings.

Lazio 1-0

Reason for tip

Lazio are under pressure with several midfielders out, but a reaction to their derby defeat is expected and they can nick a 1-0 win if Genoa continue to struggle in front of goal. Il Grifone have not scored in either home league game this season.

Oppose goals in Genoa

Genoa and Lazio will attempt to kickstart their faltering Serie A campaigns on Monday night at the Marassi, where goals could be on short supply.

Il Grifone have not scored a goal at home yet after a goalless draw with Lecce and a 1-0 defeat against Juventus. Patrick Vieira’s side looked unlikely to get one at Como in their first away trip before a late red card for the hosts gave them a chance to snatch a point.

Genoa lost 2-1 at Bologna last weekend in a match where they caved in under late pressure after taking the lead.  They have clearly found goals hard to come by and, although they can be slick in midfield, they tend to rely on transitions when the game has opened up.

Lazio in a state of emergency

Meanwhile, Lazio will arrive at Stadio Luigi Ferraris in a state of emergency after their grim start to the campaign took a turn for the worse with last weekend’s derby defeat to Roma.

Maurizio Sarri and Lazio’s sporting director held a 30-minute meeting at the training ground in the wake of Sunday’s loss, where the two players red red-carded against Roma, Matteo Guendouzi and Reda Belahyane, apologised to the squad – as did Nuno Tavares – who stormed out of the stadium after being blamed for the decisive goal.

Lazio are beset with suspensions, injuries and they are struggling to score, but sometimes good things can come from having your backs to the wall and it wouldn’t be a total surprise if Sarri’s side nicked this 1-0. But the best bet for this match between two teams that score infrequently and are primarily concerned with not conceding is to play the Under 2.5 goal market.
