      Gent vs Genk Predictions

Gent’s three match losing streak in the Belgian Pro League came to an end on Thursday when they scraped out a 1-0 win at KV Oostende. This, coupled with Genk’s 5-2 thrashing of Anderlecht, kept their dreams of a 2nd place finish alive.

They come into the final game of the season three points adrift of Anderlecht, but if they can win and Anderlecht lose against Zulte-Waregem they will finish 2nd and qualify for the Champions League.

Gent only have themselves to blame for missing out if they do. They have underperformed during the Championship playoffs and only managed three wins from their nine matches so far. Four of these nine games have been defeats, which has seen them collect 11 points from a possible 27. They had a four point advantage over Anderlecht coming into the playoffs but their poor form has seen that advantage replaced with a three point deficit.

Genk finished the regular season in 5th place after narrowly missing out on the Championship positions last season, and a win on Sunday would see them leapfrog their opponents and finish the season as the 3rd placed side, which would see them take the last qualification position for the Europa League.

Genk started their Championship playoff campaign with three wins from their first four games, but since then they have been less impressive. Three of their last five outings have resulted in a defeat for them and away from home they have lost four of their last five. Gent have only managed two wins from their last six home games though, but to be fair to them they’ve only lost twice at home in their last 17 outings.

The hosts have managed to find the net in all of their home matches this season, but have only kept a clean sheet in one of their last seven games there. Genk have scored in six of their last eight away games too and will be gunning for the win in order to secure continental football.

I don’t think the visitors have it in them to beat Gent though, so I’m going for a Gent Win or Draw Double Chance and Both Teams to Score at 6/5 along with a 2-1 win for Gent at 15/2.
