Cyprus unlikely to test Georgia

Georgia entertain Cyprus in Group A on Sunday in what appears to be a dead-rubber.

The visitors have no points after five games and cannot finish in the top two, while Georgia need to win all of their remaining games and hope for results elsewhere to go their way.

The hosts are assured of a play-off spot thanks to their Nations League performances, and will be looking to continue their strong home form with a win even if there isn’t a great deal riding on this game.

Georgia can win with room to spare

Georgia won 2-1 in Cyprus earlier in qualifying and should be able to better that result ar home.

Cyprus have lost all five of their qualifiers and four of those defeats have been by at least two-goal margins, shipping 22 goals and scoring just twice themselves.

As such, Georgia to beat a -1 handicap appeals as they have an impressive home record – with six wins and just one defeat in their last nine on home soil.

Georgia also have six clean sheets during that nine game streak and can keep Cyprus’ limp attack at bay. A 3-0 win for the hosts looks a reasonable correct score prediction as the visitors have conceded at least three goals in five of their last eight away games.

Surprisingly, Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia hasn’t scored during qualifying for Georgia but he can belatedly open his account here. The 22-year-old was on target for his country in their last game, an 8-0 rout of Thailand in a friendly, and is off the mark in Serie A for his club this season with one goal in seven league games.
