Greece vs Belarus Predictions
- Greece were promoted to the top tier of the Nations League last season
- Ivan Jovanovic has won eight of his 10 matches in charge of Greece
- Belarus have only won one of their last six competitive internationals
Greeks flying under Jovanovic
Greece and Belarus will get their World Cup qualifying Group C campaigns underway in Piraeus on Friday and the hosts, who have won eight of their 10 matches since the appointment of Ivan Jovanovic as head coach, should run out comfortable winners.
It has certainly been a successful 12 months for Greece, who claimed a memorable Nations League victory at Wembley against England in October before clinching promotion to the top tier of that competition with a 3-1 aggregate success over Scotland earlier this year.
Ethniki have won six of their last eight home matches and, notably, all of the victories during that sequence have come by at least a two-goal margin and include a 4-1 win over Slovakia and a 4-0 success against Bulgaria – two sides that sit above Belarus in the FIFA world rankings.
Visitors facing tough task
Belarus produced a solid if unspectacular Nations League campaign, drawing four of their six games and winning just once, but that was enough to preserve their place in League C.
There were just seven goals scored across Belarus’ six Nations League games but they did ship four in their most recent friendly, a 4-1 loss to Russia.
Greece are an improving and in-form team that sit 58 places above Belarus in the world rankings, so they should win this with something to spare, perhaps matching the four-goal haul they achieved in those recent home victories over Slovakia and Bulgaria.
