Twente 3-2

Reason for tip

A high-scoring contest looks to be on the cards given Heerenveen’s pre-season record, which has seen them score 21 goals and concede 13 in five matches. The Frisians have conceded multiple goals in seven of their last eight matches overall and could fall to a 3-2 defeat on home turf to a Twente side that averages three goals per game across their last five.

Goals galore on the cards at Abe Lenstra Stadium

Two evenly matched, attack-minded sides should serve up a treat on Sunday at the Abe Lenstra Stadium when Heerenveen host FC Twente in the opening round of the Eredivisie. This fixture rarely disappoints with at least three goals scored in eight of the last 10 meetings of the clubs.

Robin Veldman’s Heerenveen arrive unbeaten after a goal‑laden pre‑season, scoring 21 times across their five matches. Jacob Trenskow and Dylan Vente have been central to that attacking surge, while Maxence Rivera impressed before picking up a knock.

The Frisians, however, conceded thirteen goals in the same period, and defensive looseness remains a concern — especially with Levi Smans ruled out and several midfielders doubtful.

Weghorst leads lethal Twente attack

Twente’s preparation has been far more inconsistent. The Tukkers managed only one win in five friendlies and suffered Europa League elimination in qualifying against Ferencvaros. They did thrash Dunska Streda of Slovenia 6-0 in the first leg of Europa Conference League qualifying on Thursday, however.

Wout Weghorst has been leading the line well and Kristian Ørjasæter continues to offer a real threat in the final third. Mees Hilgers remains sidelined, but Twente otherwise travel with a full squad.

Head‑to‑head history leans towards the visitors, who are unbeaten in the last five meetings and were utterly dominant in February’s 5‑0 win. With both sides vulnerable defensively, another high‑scoring contest looks likely with Twente picked to shade it 3-2.
