Hull City vs Aston Villa Predictions
- Hull have scored in all three of their games this season
- Both of Hull’s league opponents have posted xG ratings of over 1.0
- Aston Villa scored 24 goals in 19 Premier League away games last season
Hull looking to extend dream start
Hull were the favourites to go down before a ball was kicked this season after winning the play-offs but they’ve enjoyed a perfect start to life back in the Premier League with six points from two games ahead of Aston Villa’s visit for the late kick off on Saturday.
While the Tigers are in dreamland, Villa are in the midst of a nightmare as they are yet to get any points on the board and have had to contend with a summer exodus.
Despite their contrasting fortunes, Hull are the clear underdogs for Saturday’s game and there is a temptation to back the hosts to get a positive result in the double chance market but at a similar price the best angle here could be backing both of these teams to get on the scoresheet.
Villa can break goal drought
Villa are yet to score this season but they can end that streak at MKM Stadium on Saturday. Unai Emery’s men have so far faced Brighton away and Arsenal at home, and they should find it easier to carve out openings against the Tigers.
Hull have two clean sheets but have conceded plenty of chances. Manchester United posted at xG of 1.83 in their opening day defeat at this venue and had 21 shots in total, while last weekend Coventry had 11 shots to Hull’s six and had an xG of 1.29.
Villa scored on average over a goal per game in the Premier League last season and have enough attacking quality to get on the scoresheet, even without the departed Ollie Watkins.
Hull will be keen to continue their strong form and should be expected to score after hitting three goals in two games. The Tigers also had a decent strike rate at home in the Championship last season with 35 goals in 23 games so both of these teams look capable of making a breakthrough.
Spoils could be shared at MKM Stadium
Hull are the form team but they have rode their luck at times in their opening two fixtures and Villa can end their winning streak.
However, the visitors may have to settle for a point and a 1-1 draw is the preference in the correct score market. Hull have overperformed their xG in the early stages of this season and Villa have struggled in attack, so neither of these teams look capable of scoring more than once even if goals at both ends are predicted.
Hull midfielder Mohamed Belloumi is yet to get off the mark this season but he has managed three shots in total across his two league games. The Algerian should get a couple of chances against Villa and looks an interesting outside candidate for an anytime effort against.
