Unbeaten Leeds face Brighton test

Leeds have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the new season but their record will be put to the test on Saturday as they make the trip to Brighton on Saturday.

The Seagulls have secured a spot in the league phase of the Conference League and they overcame Aston Villa in their Premier League opener, before suffering a first defeat of the campaign as they went down 4-3 at Chelsea last time out.

Leeds were second best for large periods against Brentford at Elland Road last weekend but managed to salvage a draw thanks to Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s late strike – and they will need to improve on that performance to get a positive result on the south coast.

Brighton can maintain Leeds dominance

Leeds won 1-0 in a reverse fixture when these sides last met last season as they ended a seven-game losing run against Brighton that stretched back to 2017.

However, they have struggled as the away side in this fixture and have failed to score in each of their last eight trips to Brighton, including a 3-0 defeat at the Amex last term.

Brighton have won seven of their last eight home games against Leeds and the early signs suggest they will be a force at this ground in the campaign ahead. Albion thrashed Tromso 4-0 in their opening home fixture in a European qualifier and then downed Aston Villa by the same scoreline in their league opener.

Fabian Hurzeler’s side impressed in defeat to Chelsea last time out and showed real fight after falling 3-0 behind inside the first half. Brighton fought back to 3-2 before conceding again and ultimately went down 4-3. There won’t be too many teams who put three past Chelsea this season and with home advantage they look good value to claim all three points against Leeds on Saturday.

Brighton can keep a clean sheet

Brighton are yet to concede at home this season and they kept two clean sheets in their final three games at the Amex last term. Leeds haven’t scored at this venue since a 2-2 draw in the Championship back in 2012 and they haven’t won at Brighton since 2009 when these sides were in the third tier.

Daniel Farke’s side are yet to draw a blank this season but they only managed two shots on target against the Bees and Brighton look capable of keeping them at bay. Brighton have been in excellent scoring form with 11 goals scored across their last three games, while they have scored at least three in four of their last five competitive home games, so a 3-0 win for the hosts is the correct score prediction.

Jack Hinshelwood is Brighton’s leading scorer with two goals but the talented youngster faces a spell on the sidelines after suffering an injury in training. Albion have plenty of other players capable of getting on the scoresheet and Diego Gomez appeals as a bit of an outside contender.

The Paraguay international is yet to score this term but he had five shots against Chelsea and should get opportunities against Leeds. After missing some good chances at Stamford Bridge, Gomez can make amends with an anytime effort on Saturday.
