Sheffield United to Win

Reason for tip

Sheffield United have made a solid start in their hunt for an immediate return to the Premier League, going unbeaten through their opening four league matches and looking extremely impressive when beating Watford, who had won their three previous matches. Hull, meanwhile, are still searching for a first win of the campaign and are unlikely to have enough to hold off a Blades side filled with talent.

Sheffield United 1-0

Reason for tip

While Sheffield United should have enough to take three points at the MKM, they are unlikely to run away with things. Hull recorded a shutout in their last home match and should keep things tight, although they are unlikely to net themselves given they have scored just three goals in five matches this term.

Hull City vs Sheffield United Predictions

  • Hull are still searching for a first win of the campaign, losing two and drawing three of their opening five fixtures
  • Only five sides in the Championship have a higher expected goals total that Sheffield United’s 5.7 this term
  • The Blades are unbeaten in six meetings with the Tigers, winning five times in that run

Tigers to be tamed once again

Despite leading the Tigers to a respectable seventh-place finish – missing out on the playoffs by just three points – last term, Liam Rosenior was sacked by Hull at the end of the season, with that bold and much-maligned call yet to pay off.

His replacement Tim Walter is still searching for a first win of the season and Hull have drawn three and lost the other of their opening four league matches of the campaign.

Hull made plenty of transfers towards the end of the window, bringing in the likes of Abu Kamara and Charlie Hughes, but even those impressive signings are unlikely to bring enough improvement for them to see off Sheffield United on Friday.

Blades look too sharp for their hosts

Only five Championship teams have accumulated more expected goals than Sheffield United’s 5.7 and they will be confident ahead of this trip having gone six matches unbeaten against the Tigers, recording five wins in that run.

Hull have scored only three goals in their five matches this term and could struggle against a side who kept hold of plenty of their Premier League-quality players, such as Gus Hamer and Vini Souza, and have talent throughout their squad.

Back the Blades to maintain their unbeaten Championship away record this term by adding to Walter’s woes at the MKM.
