Chivu’s Inter era starts in earnest

Inter Milan open the new Serie A season under the guidance of new boss Cristian Chivu against Torino on Monday evening.

Chivu took charge of the Nerazurri during the Club World Cup and he will be tasked with challenging for the Scudetto this season, after Inter were pipped at the post by Napoli last term.

Inter are also looking to bounce back after defeat in last season’s Champions League final and they will fancy their chances of starting the new season with a win as this is a fixture Inter have dominated in recent years.

The Milan club have won each of the last six head-to-head games and the best way to back the clear favourites looks to be taking a chance on an Inter win to nil.

Torino tended to struggle for goals on the road last season with just 22 strikes in 19 away games in Serie A. Il Toro also failed to score in each of their final three trips last term, and they drew a blank when they last faced their hosts in a 2-0 defeat in Turin in May.

Inter may have to settle for a routine win rather than a spectacular one, however, and a 2-0 victory for the hosts is the correct score pick. Inter are yet to score more than twice in 90 minutes in any game under Chivu and they have scored exactly twice in five of his seven matches in charge including friendlies.
