Inverness CT vs Edinburgh City Predictions
Inverness tasted defeat for the first time in 14 matches at the weekend, as they went down three goals to two against Falkirk, though they remain a side that is tough to get the better of. Having drawn 1-1 in the Scottish FA Cup tie, they’ll be hoping to use their home advantage to good effect and thus make it through to the last-16.
Against a side two divisions below them, Inverness could only manage to draw in the initial tie, but that result doesn’t exactly tell the full story. The forth division side certainly had their moments, hence the replay, but Inverness showed much more from an overall quality point of view and really should’ve been out of sight before half-time, while they missed a massive opportunity to double their lead just before the break. Now back in front of their own fans, it would be disappointing if the Championship side were unable to inflict some real damage.
In addition to being the side that carved out more scoring openings at Ainslie Park, Inverness’s performances at home in the Championship this season suggest that they ought to have enough about them to run riot on Tuesday evening. John Robertson’s men have scored 12 goals in eight matches at Caledonian Stadium, while they’ve averaged a very pleasing 1.84 expected goals for, which tells us that they find creating scoring opportunities against teams playing two levels above Edinburgh relatively easy.
In their own division, Edinburgh have made light work of winning games away from home of late, as they arrive at this juncture having won each of their last five away games. While such a stat is impressive, their performance against Inverness at home is hard to look at too favourably. Yes, they did create a few openings and yes, they battled hard, but if they concede similar chances to those given up in that game, especially early doors, then they’re going to struggle to stay in the game at Caledonian Stadium.
At the prices, the bet that stands out is ‘Inverness to Score Over 2.5 Goals’. In truth, the Championship could’ve and, based on the chances that they had, probably should’ve scored three goals in the first half at Ainslie Park. It was disappointing that they couldn’t capitalise on that occasion, but now back on their own patch, Caley Thistle can showcase their superiority by finding the net with regularity.
