- Inverness CT are currently second in the Scottish Championship, 17 points behind leaders Dundee United.
- Rangers U21 have enjoyed a good run in the Challenge Cup, winning their last five matches.
- Inverness have averaged 1.36 goals per game in the league this season, conceding an average of 1.09 goals per game.
- Rangers U21 have scored 11 goals in six games in the Challenge Cup, a shade under two goals a game.
Can Inverness find a result and make the final?
Inverness have enjoyed their season so far with their second place in the Scottish Championship a great position, even if they are overshadowed by Dundee United who are miles ahead of every team in the league. Inverness haven’t been in great form recently though, winning just two of their last five games and struggling to maintain their second place.
They’ve scored at a reasonably slow rate so far, scoring the same amount of goals as Partick Thistle, who currently sit bottom of the league. They haven’t performed badly in defence though, conceding just 24 goals in 22 games, an average of 1.09 goals per game.
Are Rangers U21 able to upset the professionals and make the final?
Rangers U21 side have participated in the Challenge Cup this season and have competed well, beating league sides in Berwick Rangers and Stanraer whilst also overcoming English National Leagues team Solihull Moors and Wrexham. There isn’t much experience in the ranks but the youngsters are showing that they have the talent to make the final of this competition.
Whilst the sample size isn’t huge, the U21 team have shown that they can find the net, scoring 11 goals in their six games this season. They’ve performed admirably in defence too with just five goals conceded and three clean sheets kept in that time.
Which sides wins in the semi-final and goes all the way?
This game should be an entertaining one with both sides capable of finding the net and we think there should be chances at either end of the pitch as these teams fight it out to make the final. This should lead to an open game and, with that in mind, we’re backing both teams to score in this contest.
There experience of Inverness should shine through ultimately with plenty of the season behind them and we think the home side should have enough to take the victory in this one, even if it’s not quite as straight forward as they would hope. We’re backing Inverness to win this game 2-1 in what should be a close fought, entertaining match.
