Ipswich vs QPR Predictions
Ian Holloway returned to the Loftus Road hot-seat last weekend and he got off to a dream start to his second spell at the club. A 2-1 win over Norwich leaves them safely in mid-table and only 4 points off the play-off spots so at the very least they have some solid foundations from which to build on.
Away from home they’ve been quite impressive this season too so they should head to Portman Road with a fair amount of confidence. Their average of 1.38 points per game on the road is better than their home average and only 5 sides in the Championship have picked up more away points than QPR. They do come into this game as underdogs still but with Ipswich not enjoying a great season and QPR under new management, the visitors have plenty of reason to believe they can get a good result.
Ipswich are down in 17th place and certainly look a considerably weaker outfit than the one that has mounted play-off challenges in the past two seasons and made it into the top six, two years ago. The pressure is on long-serving boss Mick McCarthy to turn it around but their squad just looks a little light on real quality and it’s doubtful a replacement could really make any significant improvements.
A lack of goals has been a major problem. They’ve scored just 0.82 goals per game this season in the Championship, which is the joint worst goalscoring record in the league, along with 2nd from bottom Wigan. They haven’t been bad defensively but Nottingham Forest secured a 2-0 win at Portman Road last weekend and they’ve gone 4 games without a clean sheet now, so there is plenty of reason to think QPR can cause them a few problems here and get at least a point from the game.
Therefore, backing Double Chance – Draw or QPR at 4/6 looks like the value bet here and they do have a very strong recent record against the Suffolk side.
