Tip Reasoning

  • Juventus are without Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata for this clash
  • Chelsea have conceded just four times in their last 14 Champions League games
  • The Blues have seen under 2.5 goals in all of their games under Tuchel in this competition
  • The visitors have won eight of their last 12 Champions League group matches

Juve looking blunt

Juventus finally started to pick up after losing Cristiano Ronaldo, but they’ve been blunted for this meeting with the European Champions. The Old Lady have scored three times in their last two games, but Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata are both ruled out for this clash. Between them they’ve scored almost half of Juve’s goals this term.

Former Everton man Moise Kean is set to take up the main striking role for Juve, leaving them significantly weakened going into a huge game. Chelsea are hard to break down at the best of times, so the hosts’ hopes look really damaged by their injuries.

Blues out to bounce back

Chelsea lost 1-0 in a huge clash with Man City at the weekend, a rare big-game loss for Thomas Tuchel’s side. The Blues have an impressive defensive set-up, which inspired them to European glory last term.

Since the start of last season, Chelsea have only conceded four goals in 14 Champions League matches (W10 D3 L1). They kept 10 clean sheets in that run, never conceding more than once in a game. Edouard Mendy has conceded in only three of 13 appearances, for the Blues in this competition, which bodes well for them against a weakened Juve attack.

Goals in short supply in Turin

All of Chelsea’s eight games under Thomas Tuchel in this competition have seen fewer than three goals. They’ve only scored more than once in three of those games. With the Blues conceding only four times across their last 10 matches in all competitions, under 2.5 goals is my first prediction.

Chelsea have only lost three of their last 32 Champions League group stage matches (W20 D9), including eight wins from their last 12. With Thomas Tuchel winning 17 of 25 games at this stage, we’re backing the Blues to edge out a weakened Juve in a 1-0 win.
