Juventus vs Sampdoria Predictions
- Juventus have won seven of their last nine games in all competitions.
- Six of those victories have been accompanied by clean sheets, including Thursday’s 1-0 Europa League success against Freiburg.
- Sampdoria are winless in their last 10 matches, failing to net on eight occasions in that run.
Bianconeri bounce back in Europe
Should Juventus fail in their appeal against a 15-point deduction in Serie A, last week’s 1-0 defeat at Roma probably put paid to their slim hopes of recovering to finish in the top four. Massimiliano Allegri’s men bounced back in another tight affair in midweek, seeing off Freiburg by a single goal in the Europa League, and despite the Bianconeri being less than free-flowing in attack, they will fancy their chances of keeping things tight against struggling Sampdoria on Sunday.
Juventus have won seven of their last nine games after Angel Di Maria handed them the advantage in their last-16 tie with surprise Bundesliga package Freiburg. Six of those seven victories have been to nil, with the likes of Lazio and Fiorentina among those to be shut out by Allegri’s men. While all may not be right in Turin – with Paul Pogba’s midweek dropping for disciplinary reasons the latest drama to befall them – their dire visitors should be comfortably held at arm’s length.
Indeed, Sampdoria are destined for relegation after going 10 games without a victory, losing seven times in that run and failing to hit the net on eight occasions. Dejan Stankovic’s side have still hit the net just 11 times in Serie A all season, averaging just three shots on target per game and underperforming their expected goals (xG) figures by a huge 10 goals. Samp held Juve to a goalless draw back on the opening day, but after going eight away games without a clean sheet, they look unlikely to do so again.
Juve can shut out torrid Samp
With Juventus boasting an excellent defensive record – one only bettered by Napoli and Lazio in Serie A this season – backing them to win to nil at home to the worst attacking outfit in Europe’s top five leagues appears to be a no-brainer.
Meanwhile, 2-0 to Juve could represent a solid correct score prediction – they have scored 29 goals in 13 home league games this season, recording nine wins and just one defeat.
