Lille to Win and Over 1.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Lille are unbeaten in six games and beat Lens 2-1 in their last home match. Les Dogues have won four of their last five home league games and scored multiple goals in each. Marseille, meanwhile,  have lost three of their last four away league games. Overall, they have lost three on the spin and shipped at least two goals in each.

Lille 2-0

Reason for tip

Lille have scored exactly two goals in their last three home games against Marseille and won two of those 2-0. Marseille lost 2-0 to 10-man PSG last weekend, their second game in a row where they failed to score and conceded multiple goals.

Lille look good to follow up derby win

Lille look a more solid unit than Marseille going into Friday’s Ligue 1 contest at Stade Pierre-Mauroy. Les Dogues moved into fourth place last weekend after defeating great rivals Lens in the Derby du Nord while Marseille were well beaten by 10-man Paris Saint Germain in Le Classique.

Lille had Kosovan dribbler Edon Zhegrova to thank for the three points as his strikes either side of half-time gave the home side enough room to survive a late Lens fightback.

Paulo Fonseca’s side are still a work in progress, but there is a balance and toughness about them that Marseille simply don’t have.

Moody Marseille may be in for another defeat

Les Phoceens have been a streaky outfit this term, but the five-game winning run they embarked upon when Jean-Louis Gasset took charge has been followed by three straight defeats. Without seven players due to injury, they did their best to knock the Parisians off their perch but found Gianluigi Donnarumma in excellent form.

PSG, who saw Lucas Beraldo sent off in the first half, picked the home side off on two counter attacks to maintain their dominance of the fixture and Marseille might bear the scars from that defeat here.

Lille have won their last three home matches against Marseille and scored exactly two goals on each occasion, so a home win with at least two goals in the game looks a solid play given the visitors’ current troubles.
