Linfield To Win To Nil

Reason for tip

Linfield have won 15 of their last 20 competitive home fixtures and they can add another success against poor travellers Stjarnan, who have lost each of their last eight away games in Europe, failing to score in seven of those.

Linfield 3-0

Reason for tip

Linfield can register a comfortable victory in this one given their strong home record and Stjarnan’s away struggles in Europe. The Icelandic side have conceded at least three goals in their last four continental away fixtures, losing them all.

Linfield vs Stjarnan Predictions

  • Linfield have won 15 of their last 20 competitive home fixtures
  • Stjarnan have lost their last eight European away matches, failing to score in seven of those
  • The Icelandic side have conceded at least three goals in their last four European away games

Linfield should deliver on home soil

Linfield suffered a damaging 2-0 defeat during last week’s first leg, but David Healy will expect his side to respond on home soil, as they have won 15 of their last 20 competitive matches on their own patch.

The Blues won 13 and lost only two of their 19 home fixtures in last season’s NIFL Premiership, while at the same stage of last season’s Conference League they beat Albanian outfit Vllaznia 3-1 at Windsor Park.

That should give Linfield plenty of confidence, while they will also be facing a side that has a poor away record in Europe.

Stjarnan struggle on their travels

Icelandic outfit Stjarnan will be delighted they have a two-goal lead to protect as they have a terrible record on their travels in Europe, losing eight continental away matches on the spin and failing to score in seven of those.

Stjarnan also concede at regular intervals, letting in three or more in each of their last four European away games, most recently going down 3-0 to Irish outfit Bohemians.

History could certainly repeat itself on Thursday and a 3-0 win would be enough to seal Linfield’s passage into the next round.
