Liverpool vs Manchester City Predictions

An 83rd minute equaliser from Phillipe Coutinho gave Liverpool hope of silverware this season on Sunday. It was a late equalising goal after Fernandinho got an opener. A tight 30 minutes of extra time followed before Willy Caballero produced some heroics in the penalty shootout to justify Manuel Pellegrini’s goalkeeping selection and win Manchester City the Capital One Cup.

This followed up a 3-1 win over Dynamo Kiev in Ukraine to all but cement their place in the next round of the Champions League. Now their attention turns back to the Premier League, and they find themselves struggling a bit. They have lost two crucial matches against Leicester and Spurs to leave them nine points adrift of the leaders. Manchester City do have a game in hand, but even winning that would only take them to within six points of the leaders. Manchester United are also gaining ground on the 4th placed side, and if they don’t turn their form around quickly they might not even make the top four.

Liverpool are nine points adrift of Manchester City down in 9th position, and they come into this game having won just two of their last nine outings in all competitions. They are through to the next round of the Europa League though after a 1-0 aggregate win over Augsburg, so they do still have a chance of picking up silverware this season despite their FA Cup exit and League Cup Final defeat.

Liverpool’s main problem has been a lacklustre playing style that doesn’t offer up many goals, but despite this they are still managing to grab goals in most of their matches. They have only scored more than a single goal in a game in two of their last eight matches, but they have managed at least one goal in six of these outings.

Manchester City aren’t bad going forward either, and they haven’t failed to score in any of their last ten matches in all competitions. This, in addition to their draw on Sunday, makes backing Both Teams to Score at 7/10 look pretty valuable to me. With Manchester City away from home and in poor form though I think this one will end all square, so I’m backing another 1-1 draw for my correct score prediction.
