Luton vs Wigan Predictions

  • Wigan have drawn four of their last nine away league games.
  • Three of the last four meetings between the clubs were drawn while the other was decided by a stoppage-time winner.

Hatters and Latics love a draw

A drawn game never seems to be too far away when Luton Town play Wigan Athletic and recent form lines suggest there’s a string possibility of Saturday’s meeting finishing all square too. The Latics will arrive at Kenilworth Road fresh, or as fresh as any Championship team can be, from a 1-1 stalemate at home to West Brom.

In a game of few chances, the Latics physically bullied the Baggies to create their openings while a mistake in defence allowed Karlan Grant a clear run on goal to convert the visitors’ best chance. Leam Richardson’s men are holding their own in the division right now, but it owes more to grit and organisation than ability.

Luton are just coming into the sort of form they maintained for much longer than anyone expected last season, winning two and drawing one of their last three games to move into the top half.  Nathan Jones’ men were well worth their 2-1 win at Cardiff on Tuesday, but the Bluebirds are possibly the least potent team in the Championship right now.

Luton like to go long

The Hatters seem better suited to playing on the road as visiting teams have better coped with their direct style when they have sat deeper against them. Four of Luton’s last six league games in Bedfordshire have ended level and it looks a strong play for this weekend’s encounter.

While only four of Wigan’s last nine away games have been drawn, two others were tight games decided by goals in the last ten minutes. The head-to-head record is pretty startling in this regard too with three of the past four clashes between these clubs finishing as stalemates and the other won by Luton in stoppage time.

A 1-1 draw is forecast because Luton have not scored more than once at home in their last seven attempts while Wigan have conceded only nine goals in their last ten away trips and two in three this season.
