Lyon vs. Bastia predictions, betting tips and match preview

Bruno Genesio’s Lyon will be hoping to record back to back Ligue 1 victories when they welcome Bastia to Parc Olympique Lyonnais this Saturday evening.

A double salvo from top scorer Alexandre Lacazette was enough to earn Les Gones a fine 1-2 success away to Toulouse on match day 11, a result which gave Lyon’s season a much needed shot in the arm and removed some of the pressure that had been mounting on their coach.

Lyon climbed up to eighth in the table after claiming the points at Stade de Toulouse and the visit of a beleaguered Bastia team to Parc Olympique Lyonnais this weekend presents Genesio’s side with a golden opportunity to follow up and make further progress up the standings.

Bastia have endured a woeful October and are currently hovering just a point above the relegation zone in 14^th after recent defeats to Nantes, Angers and Lille.

A 0-0 stalemate at home to Dijon stopped the losing run for Francois Ciccolini’s men on match day 11 but there was little improvement shown in terms of performance – and it’s no surprise to see that the club are now as short as 5/2 for the drop ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures.

Whilst Lyon are evidently still finding their feet at their new 60,000 seater arena (three wins and two draws recorded in Ligue 1 so far this term), they should be able to take advantage of their weaker opposition on Saturday evening, especially as Bastia have lost four from five on the road.

And Les Gones will be further buoyed going into this contest by their sound midweek 1-1 draw against Juventus in Turin which has kept their Champions League hopes alive.

Assuming Genesio’s side can cope with the three day turnaround, they are mighty difficult to oppose in this one and will undoubtedly be selected amongst many multiple bets this weekend at 4/9.

However, we’re content to swerve those odds for the purpose of a single bet as the 11/10 on offer about a -1 handicap success makes greater appeal with Lyon expected to win at a canter.

Lacazette could well be amongst the goals again for the hosts so 8/13 about him scoring anytime is fair, whilst 2-0 is the selection in the correct score market at 11/2.
