Draw 2-2

Reason for tip

Freiburg have not lost at home to any team currently in the bottom half of the Bundesliga, but may lack the confidence to get the better of an improving Mainz team that has taken 10 points from the last 12 on offer. A draw looks possible, but with goals almost guaranteed as Freiburg have scored multiple times in four of their last six at home and conceded at least two in all six. Mainz have scored four goals in each of their last two games too.

Mainz are moving in the right direction

Mainz are moving in the right direction and may take a point from their clash with Europe-chasing Freiburg at Europa-Park Stadion on Sunday.

Bo Henriksen’s side came from behind to smash Hoffenheim 4-1 at home last weekend and have now taken 10 points from the last 12 available to them. Away wins still elude the o5ers, which is why a draw may be the best result they can achieve in this contest, despite Freiburg’s recent home struggles.

Those results can be excused somewhat because Christian Streich’s side have played host to five of the top six in the Bundesliga since February: Stuttgart, Eintracht Frankfurt, Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart.

Draw looms large

They competed well in all of them bar this month’s 4-1 loss to Leipzig, taking points off Bayern and Eintracht and pushing Leverkusen all the way in a 3-2 thriller.

This game could go the same way as Mainz are now scoring goals again, registering four apiece in their recent clashes against Hoffenheim and Darmstadt.

But the draw looms large in betting radars because only two teams have featured in more Bundesliga stalemates than Mainz this season while Freiburg have drawn more home games than any other side in the bottom half.
