      Malmo vs Dalkurd Predictions

This is a big occasion for minnows Dalkurd, who are making their top flight debuts. They travel to face the defending champions here and clearly will do so as huge underdogs, although Malmo haven’t exactly been setting the world on fire this term either. They are currently down in 9th place and their demise has been a huge surprise to all.

Last season they were the cream of the crop in Sweden, wracking up another title by a comfortable 7 point margin. They also netted 9 more goals than the next highest scorers but have certainly taken their time to find their stride this time around. With Champions League qualifying action around the corner, they will be keen to find a bit of form and this game on paper offers them a good chance to restore some confidence.

Dalkurd have largely looked out of their depth at this level, with some off-field issues also disrupting their debut Allsvenskan campaign. They are already 5 points off safety and whatever happens this weekend, they will go into the mid-season break in a relegation position.

Overall, it’s very hard to look past a Malmo win here and it should be relatively comfortable. The champions are under the caretaker management of Daniel Andersson as they look to move on from a dismal start. The first real signs that they may be getting back to the level of last season came with a 2-0 win over a pretty decent Hacken side last time out. That should ensure they take confidence into this game and it is worth noting that it’s mostly away from home where they’ve been struggling, with a solid average of 2 points per game on their own patch.

Dalkurd in any case, offer up no suggestion that they are likely to cause an upset here. They are yet to pick up a single point away this season with only one other Allsvenskan side yet to claim anything on the road. Not only are they propping up the division but they also sit bottom of the form table with a miserable return of just 1 point from their last 8 league matches, while they also have the worst defensive record with 2.2 goals per game conceded.

With Malmo having gone through a change in management and having recorded a much needed win last time out, it’s hard to see any other outcome than a comfortable home win here. Backing Malmo -1 Handicap could therefore be the best approach to take with a real gulf in class likely to be evident.

Going for Malmo to Win to Nil also appeals. They’ve a 40% home clean sheet ratio so far this term, while Dalkurd have failed to score in 67% of their away games.
