Sky Blue thinking of killing tie off at home

Malmo FF host Riga FC in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Qualifying tie on Wednesday at Malmo Stadion.

The Latvians travel across the Baltic Sea more in hope than expectation after back-to-back domestic away defeats.

Riga FC have never previously won a Champions League game and were knocked out at this stage last year 2-0 away to Maccabi Tel Aviv.

They should be better suited to conditions in Sweden after a much shorter journey too, but it is still hard to envisage Andris Riherts’s side avoiding defeat to the Swedish powerhouses.

The Allsvenskan champions have a good mix of talent and experience, so should be well equipped to move past this round with ease and we think they could go all out to kill the tie off on Wednesday.

Sky Blue lost their leadership last weekend in a 3-2 reverse at Norrkoping that followed a six-week mid-season break.

Jon Dahl Tomasson’s men will be desperate to get that loss out of their system and give themselves some breathing room domestically by not needing to play their strongest side in the return leg.

They will need to put their foot down hard to achieve that kind of security and we are fully supporting them to win this with a bit to spare – 3-1.

Four of Malmo’s five Allsvenskan home wins have come with both teams on the scoresheet, which could happen here, but we think it is better to go with the hosts and over 2.5 goals.
