Monaco 2-1

Reason for tip

Marseille have lost back-to-back home games, but scored exactly once in two of their last three at the Veledrome. Monaco have scored two or more in five of their seven matches on the road, including a 2-1 success at Rennes.

Marseille vs Monaco Predictions

  • Five successive Marseille’s games have featured 3+ goals
  • There have been more than two strikes in 11 of Monaco’s last 14 fixtures
  • Marseille are the second highest scores in Ligue 1 this season

Marseille attempting to close the gap

Marseille’s last fixture was a 3-1 win at Lens, a result that leaves then three points behind opponents Monaco in the Ligue 1 table.

It has therefore been an impressive campaign for the Phocaeans, who are perhaps benefiting from a lack of European football.

They have been particularly strong in front of goal, with only leaders Paris St-Germain (32) netting more than their haul of 27 goals across a dozen top flight outings.

That translates to five successive fixtures containing 3+ strikes, as well as the last two at home, although both of those have worryingly ended in defeat.

Monaco attempt to bounce back

That will be good news to their visitors, who suffered UEFA Champions League agony in midweek, when they were beaten 3-2 at home by Benfica.

That was the 11th time in 14 games that there have been 3+ strikes in a match, including five of the last six away from home.

Adi Hütter’s side are therefore no strangers to getting on the scoresheet themselves, doing so in 21 successive matches on the road, while also winning three of the last four.

I predict that there will be three or more goals in this game, but Monaco may come out on top, so 2-1 to the visitors is my correct core prediction.
