Melbourne City vs Perth Glory Predictions
Melbourne City haven’t started the season in a particularly good vein of form. They failed to win any of their first three games in all competitions, with losses to Melbourne Victory and Perth Glory following an opening day draw with Sydney FC.
Since then they have won two of their five Hyundai A-League games against Central Coast Mariners and Adelaide United, with losses against Newcastle Jets and Western Sydney Wanderers coming before their draw against Brisbane Roar last Friday. Interestingly, both of the defeats during this period came on home turf.
This leaves them in 7th place in the Hyundai A-League, two positions lower than they finished last season. However a win on Friday could send them as high as 5th.
Perth Glory occupy 9th position in the A-League table, with their terrible end to last season carrying over into the new term.
They were fined for salary cap violations last season and automatically demoted to 7th position in the table despite holding the 3rd best points total. This saw them miss out on the playoff series.
They began this season with back to back defeats against Central Coast Mariners and Wellington Phoenix. They got their first win against Melbourne City in the FFA Cup and followed it up with an identical 3-1 win in the A-League over Adelaide United.
They have lost three of their last four games though, including a defeat in the FFA Cup Final for the second season running. Their last outing saw them play out a goalless draw with Sydney FC.
But they have lost all of their away matches so far this season, conceding seven goals in their four away days and failing to score on three occasions.
This will give Melbourne City an enormous amount of confidence, and I think they’ll get a good win on Friday. Odds of 8/13 for this outcome look fair as well, so that’s what my money is going on.
