Melbourne Victory vs Brisbane Roar Predictions
Melbourne Victory’s hopes of hanging on to their Hyundai A-League Premiership title ended quite a few weeks ago after a disappointing domestic season for the current champions, and for a while their playoff position looked to be in jeopardy.
However, they have secured a playoff position as they look to retain the Championship, but they reside at the bottom of the top six teams who qualify for the playoffs. The highest they can move with a win on Saturday is 5th, so they aren’t really playing for anything at the moment.
Melbourne Victory also played in midweek in the Asian Champions League, with their draw at Suwon Bluewings making it two wins and three draws in their last five outings. This is a continuation of their longer term form which has seen them draw five, loss one, and win four of their last ten matches in all competitions.
Brisbane Roar are currently occupying the top spot in the A-League, but their one point advantage over Adelaide United is anything but secure. As many as three teams could leapfrog them in the final game of the regular season, so the visitors need a win if they are to secure the Premiership title in a close fought race for the top spot.
They managed to win last time out against Newcastle Jets, making it four wins and one defeat in their last five matches. Away from home it’s a little less impressive though; they have lost four, drawn one, and won one of their last six trips away. They have conceded 12 goals in their last three matches as well.
Melbourne Victory, on the other hand, have lost just one of their home matches this season in all competitions, with 13 wins, five draws, and one defeat being played out at the AAMI Park in the last 12 months.
This could be a real test for Brisbane Roar, and their poor away record is certainly something to be worried about. Melbourne Victory aren’t going to lie down and let their visitors take the title from them either, so odds of 4/5 for a Melbourne Victory Win or Draw Double Chance are excellent value for money. I’m going for a 2-1 win for Melbourne Victory at 12/1 as well.
