Middlesbrough vs Arsenal Predictions
Middlesbrough’s demoralising winless streak continued last weekend as they played out a drab goalless draw at home to a Burnley side who haven’t won away from home all season, leaving Boro 19th in the Premier League with a six point deficit to make up before they escape the bottom three.
Their last Premier League victory came all the way back in the middle of December when they beat Stoke at the Riverside. Since then they have drawn six and lost eight of their 14 league games, scoring a grand total of just six goals and conceding 18 at the other end. It’s safe to say Middlesbrough matches haven’t been the most entertaining of games this season.
At home it’s just as bad from a neutrals perspective, where they have drawn four and lost two of their last six league games, scoring three goals and conceding seven in the process.
Arsenal aren’t having the best of times either. They looked to have turned a corner last Wednesday as they beat West Ham 3-0 at the Emirates, but they proceeded to sink to new lows in the Premier League when they lost 3-0 at Crystal Palace on Monday.
This makes it four wins, one draw, and seven defeats in their last 12 games in all competitions, with two of those victories coming against non-league opposition in the FA Cup. This run also includes their 10-2 aggregate humiliation to Bayern Munich, and their poor league form during this period leaves them seven points adrift of the top four with only one game left in hand.
Away from home in the Premier League they have won one, drawn one, and lost six of their last nine matches, conceding at least three goals in five of their last six trips away as well but managing to find the net themselves in 13 of their last 14.
They have only scored two goals or more in two of their last eight away days, and whilst they are poor defensively at the moment, I simply can’t see Middlesbrough being able to take advantage of that. Eight of Middlesbrough’s last 12 home games have seen fewer than three goals scored, so odds of 11/10 for Under 2.5 Goals look excellent value. I’m backing that along with a 1-1 correct score predictions at 15/2.
