Millwall vs Preston Predictions

Resurgent Lions seek consistency

Millwall ended a four game losing streak in style as they swept promotion chasing West Brom aside by a comfortable 2-0 scoreline. That result did not do a great deal for their forlorn play-off hopes as they remain nine points adrift, though it will inspire confidence.

The Lions have not avoided defeat in consecutive games since a run of four ending in November, three of which saw a 1-1 final score.

One thing Millwall have relied upon this term is their comeback-ability, they avoided defeat in seven of their 15 games when conceding first (W2, D5), including their last three 1-1 stalemates.

White by name, not by nature

A 2-0 win in the Lilywhite’s last away game was a rarity, as it ended a nine-game run of competitive away games with no clean sheets. You must look back to April 2021 to find Preston’s last run of consecutive away clean sheets.

Repeating that run of away clean sheets could be unlikely, which is in part thanks to their questionable record in this part of London. Preston failed to keep a clean sheet in their last eight visits to the Den, failing to win six of those games.

Millwall Boss Gary Rowett has never lost against Preston (W5, D4) but five of those games did see goals at both ends. As such, I predict that both teams will score in what could ultimately end up being a lacklustre 1-1 draw, the same scoreline as in 30% of Millwall’s league games this season.
