Under 2.5 Match Goals

Reason for tip

Both Montenegro and Finland have both seen four of their five Nations League Group B3 feature under 2.5 goals, with both sides only finding the net six times during this campaign. Meanwhile, both teams have also seen six of their last seven games contain a maximum of two goals.

Finland 1-0

Reason for tip

Finland posted a 2-0 victory over Montenegro in the return fixture in June, and are ranked eight places above their hosts in the FIFA World Rankings. More importantly, Montenegro cannot be promoted or relegated, so could opt to rest players.

Montenegro vs Finland Predictions

  • Montenegro and Finland have both seen six of their last seven matches contain under 2.5 goals.
  • Both sides have only seen over 2.5 goals scored once in their five Nations League Group B3 games.
  • Finland and Montenegro have each scored just six goals in five Nations League outings this campaign.

Entertainment unlikely in Podgorica

With Bosnia and Herzegovina sealing promotion from Group B3 of the UEFA Nations League after going unbeaten through their five games, Montenegro have nothing to play for when they meet Finland – who must simply match Romania’s result to stay in the second tier. Given both teams’ poor attacking records – both have only seen over 2.5 goals scored in one of their five Nations League games, a thriller is not anticipated.

Montenegro are yet to lose on home soil in this edition of the Nations League, though their two such games have contained a total of just three goals. Miodrag Radulovic’s men – ranked 67th in the world by FIFA – have seen a total of 10 goals scored in their five Nations League outings, and have only seen three or more goals scored in one of their last seven games.

Finland also look unlikely to provide much by way of entertainment, especially given they may not need a victory to remain in League B. Markku Kanerva’s team did beat Montenegro 2-0 on home soil in June, but last won on the road last November against Bosnia and Herzegovina. Finland have seen six of their last seven games contain under 2.5 goals, and can at least rely on a solid rearguard; they have shipped just 11 goals in their last 11 Nations League matches.

Under 2.5 goals a banker

Given the poor attacking records of both sides and, in particular, Montenegro’s lack of any need for a result during a congested period, backing under 2.5 goals looks the most prudent play for Monday’s match.

Meanwhile, Finland – who sit eight places above their hosts in the FIFA World Rankings – may just have enough to follow up June’s home win with a 1-0 victory, sealing survival.
