Montpellier look in real trouble

The second half of Montpellier’s 2021/22 season made for seriously bleak viewing. Montpellier won three league matches after Christmas last season and took just two points from their last nine games of the campaign. Olivier Dall’Oglio’s side finished 13^th last year with the sixth-worst defence in the league and their prospects for the 22/23 season look even more bleak – Montpellier lost all five of their pre-season games, conceding 14 goals in the process and Dall’Oglio, who can count himself lucky to still be in the job, has a serious task in front of him this season.

Troyes afforded a great opening-day opportunity  

Troyes first season back in Ligue 1 resulted in a respectable 15^th placed finish and Bruno Irles’ side appear to have been afforded a great opportunity to get this campaign off to a winning start. Troyes took four points off Montpellier last season and Sunday’s hosts appear to have much more on their plate this time round. Troyes will be keen to improve on last year’s efforts and are fancied to kick-off their 2022/23 campaign with a victory on Sunday.
