Napoli set to face familiar foes

Napoli may be underdogs to take the top spot in Champions League Group A but they head into this crucial opener in high spirits after another win at the weekend.

Their 2-1 comeback win at Lazio extended their unbeaten start to the season to five matches. They sit top of the Serie A table and have good reason to be confident as they prepare to face Liverpool yet again.

Napoli missed out on the Champions League last season but their last two ventures into the group stages have seen them drawn against Liverpool. Fortunately for the Naples faithful, they have a fantastic record against the Reds with two wins, one draw and just one defeat.

Pool struggle to get going

This record, plus the home side’s impressive form, will be a concern for Jurgen Klopp after his side once again failed to get a positive result at the weekend.

A goalless draw in the Merseyside Derby makes it just two wins from their six Premier League games this season, with both of those victories coming at Anfield and one requiring a last-gasp winner.

Home side can extend unbeaten start

They are winless in three away from home and failed to beat Napoli in either of their clashes in 2019/20. The Italians went unbeaten in that group and I fancy them in the double chance market on Wednesday.

That being said, three of their last five Champions League games have ended 1-1 and four of these teams’ 11 league games this season have been stalemates, so I’m going for 1-1 in the correct score market.
