Netherlands vs Georgia Predictions

  • The Netherlands have conceded in four of their last five home games.
  • Georgia have lost only two of their last seven away games and have scored at least once in six of those matches.
  • Both teams have scored in six of the last eight Netherlands matches.

De Boer desperate to plug leaky Dutch defence

Netherlands coach Frank de Boer could do with a morale-boosting win against Georgia after coming under fire for his formation against Scotland.

The Dutch set up in a 5-3-2 system against Steve Clarke’s side and needed a brilliant late free-kick from Memphis Depay to grab a draw.

De Boer insists he will persist with a formation that he believes is best for the team right now, although they can switch back to the traditional 4-3-3 if the game situation demands it.

As any team would do, they clearly miss injured Virgil van Dijk and the coach is looking to compensate by putting more focus on defence.

Georgia have become better travellers than many other sides of their ilk and will be riding high from a 2-1 victory over Romania this week.

They will be missing one of their top defenders though after Solomon Kverkvelia received his marching orders in Ploiesti for a second yellow card.

Willy Sagnol’s side appear much more potent than they used to be and we like their chances of breaching a Dutch rearguard that has kept only two clean sheets in the last eight.

Seven of those matches have been without Van Dijk’s commanding presence and we didn’t see much from De Boer’s tinkering against the Scots that suggests they can keep Georgia out on Sunday.

Both teams to score is our main bet and we like the look of 2-1 to the hosts as a correct score bet because the Dutch are stronger in attack than Georgia’s recent away opponents – Greece and Romania.
