New York Red Bulls vs FC Dallas Predictions
It looked like it was all going wrong for New York Red Bulls yet again on Monday as Cyle Larin put the visiting Orlando City in front just three minutes into the game, but the hosts finally managed to show some fight. Mike Grella managed to level the scores with 25 minutes remaining, and then a brace from Bradley Wright-Phillips put the Red Bulls 3-1 up with 15 minutes left to play. An own goal six minutes from time put the pressure back on the hosts, but they managed to hold on to pick up only their 2nd win of the season.
All of New York Red Bulls’ other six MLS matches so far this season have seen them defeated, which puts them rock bottom of the Eastern Conference despite them having played a game more than most teams in the conference. This is a stark contrast to the dominant side we saw win the Supporters Shield last season.
FC Dallas came into this season as one of the favourites to win the Supporters Shield after narrowly missing out to their opponents last campaign. They certainly haven’t done their chances any harm with their 17 point haul from their opening nine matches.
However, Colorado Rapids sit just a point behind them and have a game in hand, and many of the teams in the Western Conference have two or three games in hand on the leaders. Their position at the top of the tough Western Conference certainly isn’t safe.
It was put in more jeopardy as they slumped to a 3-0 defeat at Whitecaps on Sunday, with the hosts siezing their opportunities with both hands in what was actually a fairly even contest. This took FC Dallas’ recent record to two wins, two draws, and one defeat. This was the second humbling away from home they have endured this season, with rivals Houston Dynamo thrashing them 5-0 earlier in the campaign.
Both of these sides have shown massive defensive vulnerabilities at times this season. Red Bulls have already conceded 18 goals this season whilst FC Dallas have shipped 13. The hosts have managed seven goals in their four home matches though, and FC Dallas have scored 15 so far this season. This makes odds of 9/10 for Over 2.5 Goals look good to me. I’m backing an FC Dallas win as well with a 2-1 correct score prediction at 9/1.
