New York Red Bulls vs Toronto FC Predictions

Toronto FC have made some big moves during the off season to try and solve some of the major problems that presented themselves last season. They were one of the worst defensive outfits in the entire MLS, and as such they have signed four players in an attempt to improve that record. Attacking wise they remain the same, with Sebastian Giovinco providing all the attacking talent they could wish for.

New York Red Bulls haven’t added any new players, with the main move in their camp being the loss of Matt Miazga to Chelsea. His absence, along with the injury to Perrinelle, means that the Red Bulls’ defence could be suffering for some time until they find a defensive partnership they can work with.

The Red Bulls’ high pressing style that was implemented last season worked wonders for them. They finished top of the MLS table, but ultimately lost out on the playoffs due to a lapse in concentration. The semi final saw Columbus Crew take the lead in the first minute of the first leg, and the New York Red Bulls could never recover from this.

With New York Red Bulls missing out on two of their key defensive players from last season and Toronto FC’s newly acquired defensive players still adjusting to life at the club I think this could be a high scoring match.

Both attacking line ups are unchanged from last season, and between the Red Bulls and Toronto they scored a combined 120 goals in the MLS last season, conceding a combined 101 goals in the process. This makes odds of 1/1 for Over 2.5 Goals and Both Teams to Score look very attractive indeed, and I’m backing that and hoping for a thriller to kick off the new season.

I’m expecting the Red Bulls to win it though, so a 3-1 correct score prediction at 12/1 looks good too.
