Newcastle Jets vs Melbourne City Betting Tips

The three wins from their Newcastle Jets’ first four Hyundai A-League matches this season must seem an awful long time ago now.

Since that trio of good results Newcastle Jets have only won one match, with eight of their other 12 matches since then ending in defeat for last season’s bottom placed side. One of their most recent defeats saw them thrashed 6-1 at home by fellow strugglers Perth Glory.

It’s not been getting any better recently either. Five of their last six A-League matches have been losses for The Jets, results which have seen them continue a slide down the table towards the bottom spot they occupied for almost the entirety of last season.

Newcastle Jets now sit in 9^th position, with Central Coast Mariners four points behind them in 10^th and Wellington Phoenix level on points with them in 8^th. To be fair to them, their 16 point tally so far is already four more points than they managed all last season.

Melbourne City played their part in a thrilling 4-3 match between them and league leaders Western Sydney Wanderers. Unfortunately for them all their effort was in vain as they came out on the wrong end of that scoreline.

They fell 3-0 behind in that match, but managed to claw two goals back in two minutes late in the second half. Western Sydney Wanderers then got a 4^th goal before Melbourne City grabbed a 93 minute goal to make for an edgy couple of minutes.

This defeat made it two wins, two defeats, and two draws in Melbourne City’s last six A-League matches. These results leave them in 3^rd position in the A-League, with five points sitting between them and the top spot and only one point between them and 6^th placed Adelaide United.

Melbourne City are odds on favourites for this match, and with good reason. They are in much better form than Newcastle Jets and have a lot more quality available to them. For this reason, I think odds of 8/11 for a Melbourne City Win are good value. I’m going for a 2-0 correct score prediction at 10/1 as well.
