Newcastle Jets vs Melbourne Victory Predictions
- Newcastle Jets are unbeaten in three, rising from the foot of the table.
- Melbourne Victory haven’t won in six A-League games, sitting just three points off bottom spot.
- Newcastle have scored 18 goals in 17 games but conceded 35 goals as they struggle defensively.
- Melbourne Victory have scored just 20 goals this season, an average of 1.17 goals per game.
Can Newcastle continue their rise from the bottom spot?
Newcastle Jets had an awful season until three weeks ago when a 0-0 draw against Western United seemed to turn their fortunes around. Since then they’ve beaten Central Coast and picked up another draw against Western Sydney as they look to pull away from the foot of the table.
Goals, as has been the case all season, have been the main issue for the team with just over a goal a game being the club’s average but they’ve scored six in their last five games, including four against Central Coast and are looking a bit more confident in the final third. Defensively they still need word with eight goals being shipped in five games but the side are certainly showing signs of improving.
Will Melbourne Victory see any success this season?
This has truly been a season to forget for Melbourne Victory as they continue to battle at the wrong end of the table. The side are used to vying for the title but things haven’t worked at all this season, with Victory winning just four times. They’ve lost four of their last five too with their only point coming in a 2-2 draw with Perth a fortnight ago.
Victory have a wealth of attacking talent in their squad with Nabbout, Kruse, Toivonen and Rojas scoring 100 A-League goals between them but this season they have struggled for goals, scoring just 20 in 17 games. Defensively they have been poor too, conceding 26 goals more than six other A-League clubs.
Who wins the battle at the bottom of the table?
These two sides have both underperformed this season and this is something we can see continuing this weekend as both once again fail to live up to expectations. There isn’t a huge amount between the two sides with just two points separating them and we think this could be a tight encounter and are predicting this game will see less than 2.5 goals.
Goals really have been at a premium for both of these teams throughout the season and with our under 2.5 goal prediction in mind, we can’t see many goals in this match. We’re backing this game to be goalless in fact with both sides continuing to having troubles in the third in a 0-0 draw.
