Norwich vs Southampton Predictions

  • Southampton have won 1-0 in three of their last four league games
  • Norwich have lost eight of 11 games this season
  • The Canaries have lost nine of their last 10 home Premier League matches
  • In that run, they’ve scored only three times

Can Smith bounce back?

Dean Smith has been given a speedy return to top-flight football just a fortnight after losing his job. The ex-Villa boss has turned up at Norwich, facing the same opponents that he lost to in his final turn with the Villains.

This is the first time in Premier League history that a manager will face the same team in consecutive games with two different clubs. However, enacting revenge is going to be difficult considering Norwich’s campaign so far.

Saints hitting their stride

Before Smith ended up at Carrow Road, reports linked Ralph Hasenhuttl with the job. That would be quite the step down, despite a perceived lack of funds at the South Coast club. Recent weeks have left us in little doubt as to why Norwich would have wanted him, with the Saints impressing.

The visitors have gone four unbeaten in the league, while they lost on penalties to Chelsea in the Carabao Cup during that run. The Saints have won three of their last four league starts 1-0, with an improved defensive record stabilising things after a mixed start.

Another Carrow Road setback

Not only are Southampton in form, they’ve been great against Norwich in recent years. The Saints have won four of the last five Premier League meetings between the pair, losing just twice across the last 15 encounters too.

Norwich are winless in their last 10 Premier League home games (D1 L9), netting just three goals in that run. With eight defeats in 11 behind them this term it’s hard to see things turning around that quickly. Southampton look solid and they’re on a good run, so back them to keep their good form going with another 1-0 victory.

Southampton predicted lineup: McCarthy; Livramento, Bednarek, Salisu, Walker-Peters; Stuart Armstrong, Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Elyounoussi; Adam Armstrong, Adams
