Reason For Nottingham Forest vs Cardiff Predictions

  • Forest won only 17 of 46 games last term, while they’ve started this season with consecutive losses
  • Forest won only two of their clashes with the top nine in the Championship last term
  • Only Leeds picked up more away points than Cardiff after the arrival of Neil Harris last season
  • The visitors have lost just four of their last 16 Championship trips

Troubled starts for both

We’re just a game in to the new Championship campaign, but this encounter is a high-pressure game. Both sides lost their EFL Cup first round ties at the start of the season, so defeats in their league openers were a blow. Cardiff’s loss to Sheffield Wednesday was a shock, but combined with their 3-0 loss to Northampton there are problems for Neil Harris.

However, those problems are nothing compared to Sabri Lamouchi. They were set to keep faith in him after last season’s incredible collapse, but after two losses that faith isn’t holding out. Forest are winless in seven going into what could well be Lamouchi’s final game at the City Ground.

Big issues for Forest

While the hosts did make moves in the market, those don’t look to have fixed their main problems. While they have a good tactician in charge and talented players to pick from, it’s hard to see past the mentality issue. Last season they were a hard team to beat, but they won just 17 of 46 matches.

The inability to claim the final point they needed to secure their top-six place was a concern. On the verge of the playoffs last season Forest failed to win their last six games. Their final match saw them need to avoid a heavy defeat to hold on to fifth, but they lost 4-1 to a Stoke side with nothing to play for.

On top of that, Forest failed to win six of their clashes with the top nine at home last season. Cardiff came away from this ground with a 1-0 win, frustrating a Forest side who scored just 27 goals in 23 home games last term.

Cardiff well placed for result

The visitors may have their own troubles, but they have seen their away form take off since Harris arrived as manager. Since he took charge, only Leeds have a better away record in the division. They picked up 27 points from their last 15 trips last season, losing only four of those.

Cardiff followed that up with a win at Fulham in the playoffs, so we have faith that they can claim a victory in this trip. Given Forest’s winless streak and Cardiff’s impressive form we are going with the visitors Draw No Bet as our first prediction.

Both meetings between these two sides were won 1-0 by the away team last term, so our correct score prediction is a repeat of that scoreline. Forest have failed to score in three of their last four games, so we see the Bluebirds edging this trip.
