      Notts County vs Cheltenham Predictions

Two of League Two’s bottom three clubs go head to head this weekend, as Notts County play host to Cheltenham Town. Defeat in the FA Cup spelled the end of Harry Kewell’s short reign in charge of Notts County, but their may be light at the end of the tunnel for the struggling club as Steve Chettle won his first game in charge as caretaker manager in the EFL Trophy against Doncaster Rovers.

Notts County picked up a point in their last league game at home to Oldham Athletic, but the fans were left dissatisfied by their sides poor performance. Notts County had just 47% of the possession in their own backyard, had just three corners to the visitors nine, and managed five shots on target compared to Oldham’s sixteen.

That draw proved to be Harry Kewell’s last league game in charge of the club as the former Australian international was sacked following the 4-0 defeat in the FA Cup to League One club Barnsley. Steve Chettle is now in charge of the club in a caretaker role, but if he continues to pick up results then he may well be in line for the vacant managers position. Chettle’s first game in charge was against Doncaster Rovers in the EFL Trophy where the struggling club ran out 4-2 winners.

Hemmings top scores in the league this season for Notts County with five goals, while teammate Stead sits just one behind on four goals. Cheltenham Town have really struggled to score goals this season, and only two of their squad, Boyle and Varney, have scored more than once in the league so far and joint top score with just two goals each.

Cheltenham Town were at home in their last league game against Mansfield Town, and it was a seventh minute strike from Walker that put the visitors in front. The hosts weren’t behind for very long though as defender Tozer levelled the two teams in the tenth minute. Cheltenham Town turned things around before the break thanks to a forty-fifth minute strike from Boyle.

The second half was a much tighter affair with far fewer goal scoring opportunities and as the minutes passed it looked as if Cheltenham Town had done enough to claim all three points. However, deep into stoppage time Walker scored his second goal of the game to pinch a point for promotion chasing Mansfield Town.

Both of these clubs are in trouble this season and really need a positive result this weekend to begin turning things around as soon as possible, and Notts County will be hoping their change in management will be the catalyst they so desperately need.

We’re confident that Notts County will win to nil on Saturday, and have backed the game to end in a 1-0 victory for Chettle’s men. Notts County have an impressive win ratio of 58% against Cheltenham Town and are unbeaten against their guests in their last six meetings. Cheltenham Town have failed to score in three of their last six matches in all competitions, and the hosts sit three points and one place above their guests in the League Two table. Cheltenham have won two, drawn five, and lost nine of their sixteen league games this season, and we’re expecting another defeat this weekend as well.
