Blackburn Rovers

      Tip Reasoning

Despite there being 2 divisions between the sides it is Oxford who are pretty clear favourites with the bookmakers which may come as a surprise to some but anyone who witnessed their outstanding showing against Swansea in Round 3 will understand why that is the case.

The League 2 high-flyers play some really enterprising football at times with Kemar Roofe perhaps their star man and he was on the scoresheet twice in their deserved 3-2 win over the Swans. Since then Oxford have taken one step towards a Wembley date by beating League 1 Millwall 2-0 away from home in the 1st Leg of their Johnstones Paint Northern Section Final.

They’ve won 4 of their 5 matches so far in 2016 including an excellent win at promotion rivals Portsmouth in the league last time out. They will fancy this against a Blackburn side that are really struggling for results.

Rovers are without a win in 7 matches in the league and have only scored 2 goals in that period. Their 2-1 win at Newport in the FA Cup 3rd Round brought some light relief but this will be a much tougher game for Paul Lambert’s side.

If Oxford can hold on to their best players, they should have no problem securing promotion and they could be genuine challengers in League 1 next season so there isn’t much of a gulf in class here and with home advantage and a big crowd behind them, Oxford are capable of claiming their 9th cup win of the season and can be backed to do so at 6/5.

They scored 4 goals at Championship Brentford in the League Cup back in August and 3 against Premier League Swansea so the Rovers defence will have their work cut out here and their forwards are badly misfiring so consider backing a 2-0 home win at 17/2.
