Poland vs Saudi Arabia Predictions
- Poland conceded in five of their six Nations League games earlier this year
- Saudi Arabia saw three goals against them chalked off for offside and they conceded a lot of chances
- Poland shipped 13 chances to Mexico in their opening game
Can Saudi Arabia follow up famous win?
After a 2-1 victory over Argentina in their opening game, all eyes are on the follow-up act from Saudi Arabia. They took charge of Group C after the first round of games, with Poland drawing their opener against Mexico. Robert Lewandowski and co. had a tough start, missing a penalty and struggling to take charge of the game.
Heading into the tournament this would have been seen as a must-win game for Poland, but everything has been turned on its head after Saudi Arabia’s shock win. They’re in line for the last 16, with all four sides now in with a shot of making it out of the group. Can the Saudis follow up their win by booking their spot in the knockouts?
Opportunity for Lewandowski?
Lewandowski remains without a goal in four World Cup appearances, failing to score with any of his 11 shots including the missed penalty from the opener. It’s hard to justify backing him in this clash, although the Saudi defence does look vulnerable.
Argentina scored early in their first game and they had three further goals ruled offside. Saudi Arabia looked all over the place early on, which should open things up for Poland in this game. Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski is a good bet to get a goal this weekend, given that he finished up for the break with two goals in two games for his club side. He scored in qualifying and in the Nations League for his country, so back him to notch in this clash.
Another blow for Poland
While Saudi Arabia are vulnerable defensively, they should be able to exploit this Poland side. While they recorded a shutout against Mexico, Poland conceded in five of their six Nations League games earlier this term. In qualifying their defensive issues were also exposed, as they conceded to both Andorra and San Marino.
Saudi Arabia didn’t make too many chances against Argentina, but they didn’t need to after scoring twice early in the second-half. They can get forward and trouble a Poland side who allowed 13 shots against them in their opener. However, with the Saudis’ own defensive issues considered back both teams to find the net.
Poland have won just one of their last six competitive games and given how Saudi Arabia played in their opener they should be able to get something from this game. Back them to claim a 1-1 draw which would strengthen their last 16 hopes.
