Portland Timbers vs FC Dallas Predictions
Portland Timbers were a bit out of form towards the end of the season, but they picked it up in the last few weeks to finish the regular season in 3rd position in the MLS Western Conference.
With only four points separating 3rd place from 7th, their three match winning streak at the end of the season made all the difference in their quest for the playoffs.
They beat Sporting Kansas City on penalties in the play in round, and a 2-0 aggregate win over Vancouver Whitecaps sent them into the Playoff Final.
But FC Dallas won’t be easy to beat. They finished at the top of the MLS Western Conference with a seven point advantage over their nearest rivals and a nine point lead over Portland Timbers.
They ended the regular season on a high as well, winning four and drawing one of their final five regular season matches.
It was a bit more difficult in the playoff semi finals though. They were beat away from home to Seattle Sounders, and the 2-1 victory they achieved in the second leg meant the game had to be taken to penalties.
Portland Timbers and FC Dallas have met six times in Portland over the years, with four of those games ending in victory for the home side and the other two ending all square. Overall, Portland Timbers have won three, drawn one, and lost two of their last six matches against FC Dallas.
Portland Timbers have a great home record against FC Dallas, and FC Dallas’ away record in general doesn’t bode well for them. They have lost three of their last five games on the road, winning only one.
I think Portland Timbers can get a first leg win on Sunday, especially considering FC Dallas’ away form. Odds of 11/10 for a home win look good value as well, so that’s what I’m backing.
